When you arrive at Prato di Sotto, it feels like you are in a tiny village nestled in the hillside. Three of the buildings are arranged around a central courtyard; the origicourtyard3nal 18th century farmhouse, a 14th century Olive Mill and the owner’s house. Narrow ‘streets’ or steps lead off to other parts of the grounds; up to the pool, the vegetable garden and to the cottage; or down to the lower lawn and gardens. Everywhere there are well established trees, shrubs and flowers. Penny Radford, the owner, was personally involved in the restoration of the buildings, a labour of love over the last 12 years, which shows in the quality of the building work using reclaimed tiles, oak beams, stone fireplaces and doors. It shows in the elegantly decorated rooms, the thoughtful interior design and antique furniture. Most of all it shows in the garden – a marvelous mix of English country house and Italian style, with roses everywhere. At the top of the property is a 15m infinity edge swimming pool with ample room to relax on a lounger and just enjoy courtyard2the views.

The four bedroom house, Casa Antica, is reached from the main courtyard, consisting of the top two floors of the 18th century farmhouse. The 2 bedroom apartment, La Terrazza, which is on the ground floor of the farmhouse, is reached from a private terrace on the other side of the building. The studio, Il Molino, on the top floor of the restored 14th century olive mill, has a covered terrace overlooking the courtyard whilst the cottage, La Capanna, is located away from the other buildings overlooking the pool. The flexible accommodation suits couples, families and groups of up to 8. The entire property, sleeping up to 16, can be booked for a large group, perfect for family reunions.
